En San Bartolo

What a crazy, travel filled twenty-four hours this past day has been!

After families and friends said their goodbyes Saturday night, the Crew settled down to do some bag weighing. In a surprise feat, the three boys managed to pack the heaviest suitcases of all! After some shuffling and shifting, everyone managed to get their bags in under the 50 pound weight limit.

The Crew then moved downstairs (where we made sure that Michael's plaid shirt was not lost on the basement's sweet 70's carpeting) to crowd around the video game console to play a few rounds of some kind of racing game. Following a night of fun and excitement, the Crew members retired to their rooms for a few hours of shut eye before the big day.

At 3am Sunday morning, the Crew rose to grab their bags and head to the airport. Crew members blazed through the airport, overcoming the world's slowest check-in to hop on our plane just in time.

After a sleepy few hours on the plane, we departed to great the Rush family in warm and sunny Fort Lauderdale for our half-day layover. Astrid (Alana's mother), Ken (Alana's father) and Sean (Alana's brother) picked us up and in no time, got us to some brunch and the beach at a local Marriott. We quickly filled our plates after a long morning and happily scarfed down our giant omelets, plates of bacon and other tasty delights.

Though the travel and brunch left us rather fatigued, the Crew managed to garner enough energy to make it out to the beach. The warm waves and hammocks were quite enticing and a few Crew members even managed to squeeze in a quick dip.

After lounging on the beach, patio and in the lobby, the Crew reassembled to run a few quick errands before our next flight. Over sundaes procured from a quick Cold Stone Creamery run, Ken delivered some great travel advice and life lessons for the Crew and, before we knew it, we were back at the Fort Lauderdale airport.

Making it to our gate with grace and ease we soon boarded our plane for our final destination of the evening- Peru! Though we faced a longer flight this time around, the evening passed remarkably quickly and before we knew it, we were passing through customs in Lima.

Gathering our bags and Crew members, we hopped into our van for the final leg of our journey. Through the streets of Lima to the winding hillsides to San Bartolo, Crew members dozed or gazed out the windows as we zipped by the gorgeous cliffs and Pacific Ocean surf.

Finally, we reached our destination: Kauhuhu Lodge, San Bartolo. As we approached this amazing beach-side surf shack, we quickly unloaded our belongings to explore our new pad. Between the super speedy wireless, incredible pool, sweeping ocean view and stellar surfer decor, Crew members were ecstatic with their new lodgings. After nearly 24 hours of traveling, the Crew quietly retreated to their beds to rest up for today's fun-filled orientation events.

Check back soon for some more updates and make sure to read our tweets (from our Twitter account, www.twitter.com/PeruCrew) that are also posted on the right hand panel.

¡Ciao!
Celia
