Warm deliciousness...

Hola Amigos!

What a day, what a day...after nearly fifteen hours of craziness the Crew has finally made their way to their beds for a restful and sound sleep.

This morning began bright and early with a 5:15am wake up call so that we could make our way to our first morning of working at our various Vaso de Leche sights. Vaso de Leche is a national Peruvian program (I think it may also be present in other Latin/South American countries as well) that seeks to alleviate some of the effects of poverty by providing young children with a glass of nutritious milk (which actually taste and looks more like oatmeal) every morning. While times vary from worksite to worksite, the three sites we are currently volunteering at in the mornings open at 6am and serve delicious meals until 7am.

After our crazy early morning, a few group members went for a run along the gorgeous coast and all reconvened back at the Lodge for a delicious banana smoothie (yum, our favorite!) and breakfast. We then spent some time prepping our lesson plans for later in the day and Michael and I presented some information regarding the student social entrepreneurship conference we'll be running on November 8. Afterwords, the team broke up so that everyone could run a few errands before a late lunch.

At 1pm we reconvened at K-Land for a delicious meal and more time to rehearse our prepared lesson plans for the evening. Nelly and Patrick then took off to make it to Geraldine's house in time to teach their English classes while Alana, Cary and I put together a quick photo essay to show to our group later on. The photo shoot was definitely fun, and I got to interview David, the super cool surfer owner of K-Land at the same time!

Later on, we had a productive meeting with the San Bartolo kids, where we discussed the four projects we have on our plates- a meeting with Jorge, the mayor of San Bartolo, on Friday, a mural we're all going to paint this weekend, a photojournalism project one part of the group is working on and a leadership conference the other group is putting together for kids ages 8-12 in San Bartolo on Monday.

We later returned back for another delicious meal and Alana and I made a quick store run to pick up brownie supplies! While we were stoked to find everything we needed, San Bartolo brownies are definitely a bit different than Andover brownies...nonetheless, we think a night cooling in the fridge will do them some good. We're also contemplating making them off limits, for the sakes of others and perhaps ourselves, until at least past breakfast time tomorrow (5am brownies=trouble...). I'll make sure keep you updated on how it goes!

Off to bed, early morning tomorrow!

Love,
Celia
